We have cucumbers growing wildly and beans are slowing down. It's exciting to see this huge productive garden as I drive by every morning.
The garden is looking amazing as we move into July. Ms. Griffis has spent a lot of hours weeding, and so have our volunteers. Beans are growing like crazy so watch for our posts about having them available for sale. We'll have cucumbers soon, and we have healthy apple trees! As school is winding down we are looking for volunteers to help us with our school garden. As you know, we have expanded our garden this year and are producing more fruits and veggies than ever before! Our kids are very proud of this and are asking for your help. We have sent home a volunteer sign up sheet with the weeks listed that we will be needing help. Please consider signing up for at least one week this summer to help weed, water, and harvest our garden produce.
During the week that you sign up, we ask that you come to the garden to water our apple trees daily. We also ask that you weed and water the garden 1-2 times that week. If produce is ready to be harvested, please stop in the school office or contact Mrs. Hutchison (507-877-3491. We ask that the volunteer form be returned by Monday, May 11th. Early next week we will send home a form confirming the week(s) that you will be responsible for our school garden. The summer garden schedule will also be attached to this garden website. Please contact us with any questions or concerns. Thank you!!! Jill Veerkamp, Angela Blair, Beth Griffis It's so much fun to get this webpage started--almost as much fun as seeing students out in the garden again. They started planning things out about a month ago--choosing the things they wanted to plant and talking with the garden club about expanding the garden to include apple trees. They even got some of the high school students involved and multiple community members. We're all excited to see things starting to grow--even the weeds! Next week is our first chance to start pulling some of those weeds, and for now, even that is exciting!
